Tesha McCord Poe, CEO and Founder of Joy-Raising, is a passionate educator and fundraiser who uses her legal and business background to leverage and support the long-term success of non-profit organizations.

Leadership in Action

Tesha has spent more than a decade working as a senior administrator in Independent Schools from K-12. In this capacity,  Tesha has partnered with leadership teams to set and implement innovative strategies and growing revenue streams through admissions and fundraising.

Fundraising Success

Tesha has been instrumental in raising over $50M, including direct solicitations of 6 and 7 figure gifts. She served as the Chief Advancement Officer for Castilleja School in Palo Alto, California, where she helped to lead the largest campaign in the school's history and also for The Boys and Girls Clubs of the Peninsula in Menlo Park. She served as Associate Head of School for Hillbrook School in Los Gatos, California where she later returned to serve as a trustee.

Volunteer Leadership in the U.S. and Abroad

A dedicated volunteer leader, Tesha also serves as a trustee for Live Oak School in San Francisco and is the Board Chair for the Mariposa Foundation DR based in the Dominican Republic. In addition to founding and leading Joy-Raising, she is the Director of Advancement at Girls Middle School in Palo Alto. 

A Foundation for Success

A graduate of the University of Chicago Laboratory Schools, Tesha received a strong foundation for academic success. She is proud alumna of Barnard College, Columbia University with a B. A. in economics, and received a JD/MBA from Northwestern University, where she was named the Kennedy Scholar. She worked in several industries including broadcast journalism for NBC News, banking for Merrill Lynch, corporate law in Silicon Valley and as a tenure track law teacher at a community college under Martha Kanter, former U.S Undersecretary of Education.

Operations and Recruiting Manager

Allyson is well suited as the Operations & Recruiting Manager for Joy-Raising because she has extensive experience in several roles that require managing multiple responsibilities simultaneously with a broad range of people. Allyson has served as an Admissions Director over the past eight years in Independent Schools in the Bay Area. Most recently, she served as the 9th grade Dean, International Baccalaureate (IB) CAS Coordinator and Global Engagement Coordinator at Convent & Stuart Hall High School, San Francisco.

Prior to working in education and recruitment, Allyson worked in Los Angeles for The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson on the CBS Network as well as Craig Ferguson's production company, Green Mountain West in development. An experienced talent wrangler, she worked on the 2018 Academy Awards red carpet for ABC Network.  Allyson is a graduate of Emerson College with a degree in Broadcast Journalism. Allyson is a third culture kid who is an avid global traveler, foodie, and loves creative writing.
